Love marriage or arranged marriage: Which one you should go for?

Since ancient times, marriage has been one of the most important things to happen in the life of a person. It inevitably shapes the personal life of a person. Sometimes, it even decides the future of the career of a person especially if that person happens to be a woman. Marriage, simply put, is a bond between a man and a woman for a long-term relationship.

Selection of a right partner is very essential for successfully maintaining a long-term relationship, which is essential for making a marriage successful. There are two popular ways of selecting the life partner all over the world. One of these ways is going for an arranged marriage and the other one is love marriage. Both these types of marriages have their positive and negative points.

Let us start with the arranged marriages first. Arranged marriages have been in practice since several centuries both in the western as well as eastern world. A deeper study of the history and social life of various civilizations of the world reveals that political and economical reasons were primarily responsible for the introduction of arranged marriages in the society. In ancient times, arranged marriages were practiced mostly by royal families who used arranged marriages for negotiating with their friends and foes.

There are many people who find an arranged marriage to be very strange. The thought of a man and a woman who have never met each other before, living together for rest of their lives after marriage, seems queer enough to them. They criticize such marriages by saying that the freedom of choice of a person is not respected in such marriages.

They argue that it is not possible to spend your life with somebody whom you have never met before and whom you do not know. Another concern raised about arranged marriages is that such marriages are like a lottery. They are okay if you win but there is a great possibility that you may not. In such a case you will have to spend your life living with a person whom you do not love or understand. This will obviously ruin the life and happiness of both the people who are involved in the marriage.

There are many others too who support arranged marriages. They have an even stronger point to make. The arranged marriages have a far lesser divorce rate than love marriages do. This may not indicate the level of happiness of the couple but still it gives you an idea about the longevity of arranged marriages. Arranged marriages are arranged by the parents who are mature enough to take the right decision in the interest of their children. They scrutinize every aspect of the family of the bride or groom and agree for the marriage only if they are satisfied.

Love marriages are hailed by many to be ideal as they give freedom of selecting the right life partner to the person according to his or her desires and expectations. The girl and the boy who are involved in a love marriage often know each other since a long time. They have a better understanding with each other and they know each others pros and cons. This makes a long term relationship easy and a joy for both of them.

However, the fact remains that too many love marriages have been unsuccessful. All these couples knew each other since a long time and had a perfect understanding before marriage. The success of love marriages lies in the maturity, honesty, and flexibility of the couple to take the right decision. A lack of such compatibility results in failure of love marriage.

Choosing between arranged and love marriage is a tough call and should be left entirely to the person who is going to be married. Both of these marriages have their own pros and cons but the important thing to remember is that the success of a marriage lies in understanding and respecting each other.
